Where were these taken?
Was the fancy black lamppost theme intentional? 'Cause those are cool. Sort of hard to spot in the third picture until I noticed them in the other three and sought it out.
I love boulevards with trees that size marching down.

The Story - Yesterday evening, i arrived home and realized I had nothing in my archives that I liked for Wordless Wednesday. So, I threw my daughter into her stroller and hiked over to nearby Lindenwood University. It's beautiful campus with lovely trees. Moonshot and I share dour first kiss on a swing on the campus quad. Anyway, my plan was to get an image of their old water tower. I drive by it all the time and really like the architechure.
Once there, I snapped about 40 or so shots all around the campus and ended up liking these the best.
It's a beautiful campus that is expanding every year. But, oddly...I never see any students there. It's a local mystery that my neighbors and I have discussed at length. We live two blocks away from a pretty large college campus and in no way does our area feel like a college town. Lindenwood students are like baby pigeons...they have to exist, but you just never see them.
And though the tower picture isn't the most visually interesting of the offered pics...I like the contrast between the new and old water tower. Ah, progress.
Si - It wasn't really a stated theme...but it's hard to frame a shot on that campus without getting one or more of those cool light poles in the shot. And if they're there...it's pretty tempting to use them as framing devises. So, the light poles play a pretty large role in today's pictures just due to their omnipresence.
Very neat pictures. I have played soccer on that Lindenwood field, and probually one of the nicest fields I have every played on. For what it's worth

That baby pigeon thing is really going to bug me now. I've never thought of that before.
Lindenwood is beautiful. Apparently they have some really wealthy alumni, and particularly persuasive fund-raising people. They've been on a building kick recently.
I'm not sure if it's still the case, but back in say, 2001, many of the students were housed in truly squalid trailer-homes, while the regular dorms were updated. My brother and his "trailer-mates" had to keep the bathroom door shut so the wind wouldn't blow through the hole in the floor into the rest of the house.
It was a change of scenery, generally for the worse, when he transferred to Missouri Southern. There isn't much good one can say about Joplin, except that it's not in Kansas or Oklahoma.
One reason you might not see many students is that many Lindenwood students are commuters who leave campus as soon as class is over. They don't even go to the football games.

Simon - Yeah...I really should reread before I post. But then...what fun would that be?

Oaf - I had forgotten that your brother when there. I had, however, heard horror stories about the trailer dorms. They've certainly got plenty of them now, though.
I figure you're right to some extent about the commuters making the campus seem empty. And in fact..that theory worked well for me until they built all these luxory dorms to which you allude. Now...there's more housing on that campus than Truman State (my educational home for four years) had. And Truman's quad was packed with frisbeers and studiers and general pedestrian traffic. Now maybe it used to be a commuter schoool and now everyone hangs out over the hill where the new dorms are...leaving we locals to scratch our heads in confusion. But it still looks odd from my angle.
Steph - Do they have a pretty good ninja program there, or something? That would explain some things, I suppose.
I love the lines in these and I posted aboot lines tonight as well. I love that last one espeically. I love trees all lines up....well, lets face it, I love anything all lined up! :)

Kirksville is no St. Louis.
I mean, for students to commute, rather than just live off-campus, there has to be somewhere from which to commute. So the state schools evenly distributed through the hinterland incarcerate mobs of idle students at all hours. A private urban college that serves basically one city can expect most students to just go home.
My guess was Notre Dame or something. I was close. It was a University!!
What a boring answer to the pigeon thing! I should have preferred ignorance and my more entertaining imagination.
The eggs are laid, hatched, and the chicks grow in another dimension just a tenth of a second phased away from our own. Baby pigeons are what turn the lights on when you're sure you've turned them off, and they also steal all our missing socks from the dryer.
Curse you, baby pigeons!
All these shot seem tranquil and relaxing to me. Even the tank one. Not sure if it isn't the position of the tanks or what.
The bottom one reminds me of the town I spent about four year in in Iowa.
