are you serious? is it really on the side of the road? OMG!!! is it even safe for little kids? it's scary!!

I see that it's near the road, but what I'm thinking about is the big wall and guard tower behind the kids' area.

Prison wall? Or just a replica of a castle?

Funny, nonetheless.

Perhaps the prison is attracting future customers. Too funny.

Have a happy 4th.

Happy 4th!

I bet the 18th hole of the putt putt golf is an across the road shot where you have to dodge traffic...if you make it you get a free round of golf.

The story - I'm not sure the picture captures the surreal nature of this set-up. It's in Fort Madison, Iowa...on the Mississippi River just over the border from Missouri. We drive through here all the time on our way to visit Moonshot's folks. It's a quaint little river town that features this odd juxtaposition on its northern edge. A state prison looming over a Putt-Putt golf course. It’s not in the shot, but there’s a nice little ice cream stand with a giant plastic cone just to the left of the shot. Happy family fun time in the shadow of this guard tower studded, razor wire wrapped, depressing looking stone prison. Plus, I always imagine the prisoner, looking out their barred windows to watch the local families frolic on the golf course. If it was planned to increase the torture of being locked up…I’m in awe of Iowa’s mean streak. Sadly, I just couldn’t capture the reality in the limited time my wife and daughter were willing to sit along the side of the road and wait for me to get a shot.

:(

Was that really the best real estate they could find? I hope they got a good price.

"Hey kids, we can't afford Disney Land, but we can go to this park and if you act up, we will just throw you over the fence!"

Not only is it a prison, it's THE maximum security prison for the whole state of Iowa.
