Our Beautiful, Snowy Prison

Things have been a bit busy around the Grenstead lately. Between road trips, work schedules, various bouts with viral attacks, Rock Band at the O'Fallon crew's, and this little thing called Christmas hovering over everything...it's been a bit of a whirlwind.

But rest assured...we're still alive (and as of this moment, all healthy) even though you haven't heard from us in a while.

St. Louis was blanketed in our first snow of the season this weekend. It's timing was particularly unfortunate since it meant our extended family Christmas with MoMa’s side of the family was canceled. However, that didn’t me from marveling as I always do at the beauty of new fallen snow.

I skipped the cozy, snow-covered house shot since you all remember what that looks like and instead went for the subtler joys of the season.

Moonshot, unimpressed by my photo-journalism

I suppose I could put down the camera and help shovel...

Moonshot's a Browncoat! Yes!

All these are great. I like the cardinal shot the best, with the snow blanket over the lights as the number two.

Glad you guys are coming out of your physical funks and that you're keeping you chins up in the vice of winter's frigid grip.

Too much? Yeah, I thought so.

I am glad that Moonshot is feeling well enough to shovel.
Those pictures are beautiful. I am a bit jealous that you have such beautiful lights up. We couldn't get to ours this year, they were too stuck under and behind everything that is being stored in our garage. Sad that you couldn't do all the fun family stuff this time around. I am looking forward to my visits with my family at the end of the week. let the Christmas begin!!!

What does it say about me that I'm starting to view blog comments like a sort of competition where I have to try to beat my wife to the punch? I'm losing...

I'm jealous of Moonshot's coat. I'd love to have a big ol' Carhartt like that one. And congrats on the snowfall, if that's OK. I don't think it's really Christmas until you get the white stuff. (Sorry Mark.) And man, did you ever get a lot! Sucks that it put the kybosh on the extended family plans.

Isn't shoveling fun?!

Mark - Well, Moonshot was a browncoat fot a little bit while she was wearing my Carhartt, a remnant from my time working construction in Colorado. I've got the boots and overalls to match but rarely get to use them in our newly mild winters. But she looks better in it.

The Cardinal shot was all Moonshot. In fact, after she took that one, I pulled the camera away to try my own take on it (which got me in trouble for assuming I could do better) but befitting karma's sense of justice, mine was just horrible.

That bird is either Fred or Albert. Through the summer, little Albert was easy to distinguish from his pappy, but now that he's full grown, we can't tell them apart. Either way...it's a great picture.

Amy - Yeah, I think we're both back up to full speed. She requested to take first whack at the shoveling since she'd been cooped up in the house for too long. I was more than happy to wait inside in my PJs and mockingly point the camera out the window.

Simon - It's cute the way you two fight over me. Enough to make me blush, really. And it seems your wife just digs me more, I understand.

Aside from the travel plan cancelations I was thrilled to get a real snow. It's been too long with ice storms and light flurries. THIS is winter.

And yeah, I actually do like shoveling...for now. Ask me again toward the end of winter and I'll tell you otherwise. But yesterday I actually went ahead and shoveled the sidewalk for about six or seven houses down the block. I was feeling neighborly (an odd feeling for this gren, so I went with it before it dissapated)

Hi Moksha and Moonshot (I will never get used to those names!). I wish we had more snow and LOTS LESS ICE! Our place is a skating rink right now. Grandpa Husker actually went down on one knee walking the Hobbes monster last Saturday. I have had a running commentary on all his aches and pains ever since. Ugh. I hadn't realized you missed some of your family festivities, but there is still time for more. Your pics were great. See you soon

Those are great shots, but to be honest I've just had it with snow right now. Yesterday we got hit with 40cm and fast winds (and we got to fully enjoy the experience by being out on the roads for 5 to 6 hours of it, to get to my grandma's birthday party... big thanks to my parent's pickup truck for being relatively safer than we would have been in the Hyundai).

Btw, that's your house? It's so superb!

Panache - Yeah, the ice is no fun. I went down last Monday and am still nursing a few scars from it. (So feel your pain, Husker...my wife gave no sympathy either ;)

My Mom's family is looking to reschedule sometime after the New Year. It'll do, but holiday spirits are usually tapped out by then. Ya do what you can, though.

Emilie - Since we could just sit tight and marvel at the pretty snow...our take on it was very different that those who had to brave the conditions. Glad you made it safe.

And yup, that is Casa de Gren last year. It looks pretty much the same now...just messier inside due to the redecoration efforts of a certain Lutine.

Wow you guys got hit a lot harder than we did. I think we struggled to make an inch.

Have a great holiday season!

Hey Moksha!

Happy New Year and I glad that you had a Merry Christmas! Seems that all is well in BlogLand!

Take care!
