It's Beginning to Look Alot Like....
We’ve had our first snow of the season in St Louis. Unfortunately, it came in the form of “the worst winter storm since 1973.” Granted, I have no way of verifying that claim, but it’s been all over the TV here so I figured I’d report it as fact. Only four months after the last great blackout in St Louis, again hundreds of thousands of people are out of power. While Casa de Gren has stayed warm and well lit, we’re hoping for a speedy recovery of power to those who are even now huddled in shelters across the metro area.
However, when I got up this morning…I didn’t know anything about all the people without power. I only knew the first snow had fallen and that it was Norah’s first snow and that it was beautiful.
A Totally Unrelated and Insignificant Exchange
About 15 minutes ago, Moonshot called a new Thai restaurant and placed our order for delivery. Now, I didn’t hear the other side of the conversation, but I did hear Moonshot repeating all her information over and over again. She gave the address at least four times. About five minutes after hanging up, the phone rang.
Woman: Hello, this Thai Kitchen.
Moksha: Oh, hi.
Woman: Did you just place order?
Moksha: Yes, yes we did.
Woman: Yes. What is your phone number?
Moksha: [stunned silence]
Woman moving on from her absurd question: What is your address?
Moksha: 1625…
Woman interrupting: yeah, yeah, yeah…did you want to pay by credit card?
Moksha getting nervous: Yes. I DID pay with a credit card.
Woman: Yes, yes and that card is xxxx…
Moksha: Ma’am...[woman continues to read card number] Ma’am [reading continues] Ma’am
Woman: That your number?
Moksha: Well I don’t have it in front of me…but that sounds kinda like our card.
Woman: OK. Thank you for ordering
Moksha: Sure
Hang up.
Not really sure what that accomplished. She literally didn’t confirm even ONE of the details. I hope we get our food

In my humble opinion, as a teacher of English and lifelong lover of the beautiful but indefinable power of our forever changing language, you may spell "alot" however you wish. It's not a dictionary, it's a blog. However, I agree that your picture is stunning.
Simon - Arlo is easy to track in the snow...but easy to loose at night.
You read the woman's accent correctly. However, it was discribed as a Thai restaurant, so I won't give to TOO many points for deduction.
As for the "Alot." Allow me to pick up the 2x4 of common sense and add to the Simon-beating fun. I know that it's SUPPOSED to be two words. Spell check always stops me whenever I write it as one. When I'm writing official stuff for work, I spell it correctly. But for some reason I just like the way it looks better as one word...feels more like the way I say it. So, as a anal-rentenive word nerd, you are welcome to be annoyed by the spelling, Simon. However, Matt and I reserve the right to keep hitting you with 2x4s
Matt - Thanks for the help!
Both - Yes, I think our little house looks very cute and fairy tale-ish under snow. Glad you enjoyed it.
Update: The food did arrive and was tasty. However, it did require them calling back a second time to get directions to the house (which were already given in the initial call) and when the young lady showed up, she had no coat as if she had not expected to go out the weather. I am starting to think that dispite the clearly marked "We Delivery" in their phone book ad...that the Thai Kitchen is not a smoothly running delivery machine. Ah well, the people (dispite their confusion) were very nice and the food was good...we'll order again soon.
Mokker, that is a great story. Reminds me of my quest for a certain filled doughnut. (hey, relevant links are okay, right?)
Oh, and nice snow pics, too. If only we could get a picturesque white blanket like that here. Ho-hum. We'll just stick to our sleet and freezing rain, with the occasional .5" of snow.
I admit, although I wouldn't have typed it and risked a public lambasting, the "alot" hit me wrong, too. But, I learned while earning my English degree that our language is fluid, and many words were made up by poets. So, rock on, you innovator!
Youbetter order again soon or they might forget. I like the way youbetter looks as one word or I am typing w/one hand and wrangling the pup w/the other.
Your house looks like a fairy tale! You and Norah look all cozy-like and Arlo (love that name) is adorable.
I enjoyed the food story and, like Simon, actually recited the convo aloud.
OMG you AR's (anal-rets) must have a field day critiquing my writing and spelling. Screw you ;-) IDGaS*
I was going to tell you guys to lay off the lumber, but it's too much fun to read you all one-upping each other.
* I Don't Give a Heck
Might I mention my merriment at Mokker, Mark's new moniker for Moksha?
Elsa - Youbetter believe I'll be ordering again. It was some sweet red curry and well worth a bit of time spent training the deleivery staff.
Linda - If I can't take the occasional 2x4 to Si's head...I might as well close down this blog right now cuz all the joy would be gone.
And I'm glad you like the house picture. I tend to picture the persona of Moksha Gren as this sort of goat-like goblin critter in monk robes. The snow-capped fairy tale house just really seems like where he might live. So, it works out well that I live there ;)
Jet - Youshouldbemoreconsistentwhenoptingtorunwordstogether.

Notemyconsistency.
Will you all be my best friends, cause, like I have more fun here than I ever did when I had a social life...
I mean it, seriously. You guys seem to bring out the very best in each other and I feel so damn fortunate that you let me play along :-) :-) :-)
Jet, I'll be over in a minute. Let me throw something presentable on.
PS Can someone please give me a nickname?
I know you have a life and all that but it's Wednesday night, Dude. Time for a new post. ;-)
Hurry up, the Mounties are coming.
Word Verification: yerbmssh -or-
you're being missed ha!
I have never IN MY LIFE posted 4 comments in a row AND been completely ignored. *taps screen*
Is this thing on?
Linda - Yeah, but it's four comments in two sittings...really just two comments. You can't honestly expect me to have slid a comment in between your 8:44 PM post and your 8:46 PM post.
As for my lack of blogging...ya see...despite the illusion of productivity last week, I'm really a pretty lazy writer ;) I'm working on a particulalry geeky post right now. It will include charts and graphs and be of interest only to fellow graph-geeks like Simon. But, since the Mounties are closing in...I'll see if I can't get something up tomorrow.
Thanks for caring enough to complain.
Simon - Thanks for the support. However, I feel the need to comment on this new tick you've developed (ever since you had the audactiy to call me on my "alot," I figure we've moved on to the brutal honesty phase of our friendship) The NaBloPoMo has really effected you. Post Tramatic Stress or something. This obsession with the balance of quality vs. quantity and the continued conviction that you were forced to push out schlock has colored your entire blog perception. I mean...I agree with your statement entirely. But I don't think you've made your peace with the fact that we all enjoyed everything you put out in Novemeber. Really. No, seriously, we did. Stop rolling your eyes!!
Listen to the Mokker, Drew. We all loved it. And I think all this bickering and shit has solidified the union. Of course, I'm feeling left out and now I'm invited to um, butt out while the geeks share some of their royal geekness. I know when I'm not um, appreciated. I knew it was only a matter a time before this whole gender thing became an issue. Sorry but I like being a girl and if you guys want to play boy games, well, I can amuse myself elsewhere. Mark? Where are you, hon?
